IDDSI Implementation Progress: Where are We One Year Later

As awareness surrounding IDDSI continues to grow, you might ask yourself, “Are we making enough progress on IDDSI implementation?”.  You may even be wondering how far along others are on their IDDSI journey.

How Do You Compare

At Roche Dietitians, we were wondering the same thing. In November of 2018, we presented IDDSI training to over 300 participants and we asked them the following polling question:

“Where are You on IDDSI Implementation?”

A.    Just learning about IDDSI

B.    Aware of IDDSI but no plans yet

C.    Starting implementation

D.    Have started Implementation

E.     Are well into implementation

A year later, we conducted IDDSI training to over 700 webinar participants and asked the same question. See the poll results below.

Our Findings

  • A 27% decrease in those who are “Aware of IDDSI but no plans yet”, likely due to an increase in those who are beginning the implementation process.

  • 18% more people are “Starting implementation plans” in just one year.

  • A 3% increase in those who “Have started implementation” in just one year.

  • Less than 5% “Are well into implementation”.  So, you still have time.

Bottom Line

The number of those who have started implementation is slowly starting to increase. However, most people continue to be at the early stages of implementation. To us, this seems reasonable because as we all have been discovering, IDDSI implementation is complex.  It involves an interdisciplinary approach with buy-in from many stakeholders.  IDDSI implementation means significant changes to recipes and menus along with the development of training that will require ongoing reinforcement.

Don’t Go at It Alone

The good news is that in the year that passed between surveys, many resources have been developed to help you throughout your IDDSI journey.  Here are some of the ways we at Roche Dietitians can help you:
